Internet Life Is Easy
So you want to work less, earn more and get more enjoyment out of life in general? Oh, and you aspire to get there through Internet riches? Do you think the Internet lifestyle is easy? First off, let’s take a step back. I think it’s awesome that you want to succeed! Love to hear it. I think you should strive to do all that and then some! However, if you think the Internet life is easy, you’re wrong. It’s certainly nice to be able to travel, work comfortably and spend time working out of various locations. I can’t disagree with that at all because I know it’s pretty amazing. What I can disagree with is your notion of Internet life being a piece of cake. In fact, you should probably get used to working weekends and nights. Get accustomed to waking up in the middle of the night when things break and not relying on others to get things completed or accomplishing your goals. Life in the beginning of any Internet venture is ALOT of work. Yes, it’s fun, but it’s not easy at all.
It Happens Fast
A lot of individuals think Internet businesses are created out of thin air and take of in short periods of time. Can this happen? Of course it can. Is it customary? It is most definitely NOT customary. Many internet startups that you hear about have been around for years. I have personally spent time working on building a web product for years and that was doesn’t include the time prior to acquisition. Often times, companies can spend months on specs and years on product development and further refinement processes before gaining any traction. The stories you read on TechCrunch, Wired and Mashable all featuring individuals that took ideas to market to millions in a matter of months certainly can and do occur. But the likely hood of that happening is not all that common.
It’s Not Expensive
I know, I know but it’s the internet. It costs next to nothing to start. The barriers to entry are low and the possibilities are endless right?! Yes, yes yes and yes. However, it’s not inexpensive to create, run and maintain an Internet Business. Time is money right? If you want things accomplished in a timely manner you are going to have to pay for them. Developers, hosting, content marketing, advertising and other costs you don’t think come into play are 100% necessary when running a business online. The misconception is very often overlooked and can drain your bank account fast if you’re not careful.
It Equates To Freedom
Most people think that coming up with an internet idea means that you’re ticket to freedom has arrived. This is a huge myth and it may just be the exact opposite of what you think. Depending on the code base, buildout and many other factors, you may never be free from it. It’s quite possible that just like any other business building exercise, you’re going to be married to your company, spending countless hours on every aspect until you gain the traction the you need to succeed.
With all tht being uncovered, go for it, make your Internet dream a reality…do work and succeed! If you’re looking for my other blog posts you can find them right here.
